Coaching that is simple, effective and fun.

PHILOSOPHY

I played sports at the collegiate level and have experienced a variety of training programs throughout my years as an athlete. Upon retiring from collegiate water polo, I found CrossFit and was immediately hooked. Naturally, I wanted to try and compete at the highest level. What soon followed was 3 hour long training sessions, constant aching and resentment. Training had become a chore and was no longer fun. I wasn’t looking forward to it and I found myself going through the motions.

I needed to take a step back and reevaluate my goals and my approach to reaching them. No longer was competing at the highest level my main focus, but I wanted to keep making progress, stay healthy and most importantly, have fun doing so. I had long preached to clients that the answer to success in the gym wasn’t to do more of everything, but then here I was doing the exact opposite. Giving myself a taste of my own medicine, I began doing exactly what my clients were doing; one strength portion, one conditioning element, all done in less than 60 minutes. As if overnight, I found myself excited to train. I was having fun going through the workouts with my clients and not stressing over exercising.

Too often I see people fall into this same trap. We see top athletes posting their training on social media and assume that we need to be doing what they’re doing in order to be successful. Not everyone is meant to be a professional functional fitness athlete, and that is ok! The vast majority of us need to simplify our training and learn to have fun with it.

My approach to coaching and programming is the same as it is for my own training; simple and fun. I don’t get caught up in trying to be fancy or program hours worth of exercises. I want my athletes to reach their goals, step out of their comfort zone and have fun with their fitness. If you are someone who has found themselves in a slump with their training or needs to shake things up, Just Tryna Stay Fit could be your solution.

ABOUT ME

Exercise, health and athletics have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. When I graduated college in 2012 after playing NCAA Division I water polo and swimming, all I had were degrees in philosophy and economics. A little lost, as most recent college graduates are, I was not quite sure what I wanted my next steps to be. I began coaching water polo and swimming as a way to occupy myself until I had it all figured out. It was also around this time that I began CrossFit for my own training. While coaching, I soon realized how rewarding it was to help people accomplish their goals and to help them get out of their comfort zones to do things they never thought they could.

The reward from helping someone get their first muscle up, finish their first marathon or Just Tryna Stay Fit was so worthwhile that I turned coaching CrossFit into my career in 2014. I have worked with everyone from beginners to professionals, high school athletes to corporate executives. I look forward to helping you have fun with your training and just tryna stay fit.
